Still Fun After 20 Years

This is an even better version of the game I played as a kid on my NES. I loved playing it again and the new parts added. Theres no Red Mage, only Thief, Fighter, White Mage, and Black but all kinds of fun. The direction pad could be better and it did frustrate me at times but the game was fun as ever.

Solid port worth the low cost

This, along w Dragon Quest (Warrior) I, is a true classic of NES/early video game RPGs. 4 stars for mostly pluses... +A solid enough port, true enough to original with enough of later version changes that are appreciated. +Very affordable/good value for cost +Great starter (simple) RPG for kids +Stable A few -, mainly to experienced players, do prevent a perfect 5 star... -The over leveling issue wasnt toned back enough. It isnt game breaking though. Just know dont dally too much to Bahamut/class change. -Level up boosts are still partially random not static. Overall, a solid 4 that you likely wont regret at that cost (esp. on sale or in a package)

Controls OK for me

For folks who are complaining about the controls: You dont have to click your character. The D-pad shows up anytime you tap the left side of the screen. You can easily move more than one space just by keeping your finger down in the correct position. Its a little large, but all you have to do is lift your finger up for a second if its in the way of something on the left side of the screen. Im having no issues on an iPad Mini; maybe it is more visually intrusive on a phone? Giving 4 stars for the game itself; controls are fine to me for this type of game.

Great Classic Game

I didnt seem to have any of the "issues" brought up by some of other reviewers, and I personally didnt mind the cursor and adapted to it rather quickly. If you love any Final Fantasy pick this up! Played on a 6s.

D-Pad is horrible

I very much enjoy the enhanced graphics. The only thing—the ONLY thing thats preventing me from playing anymore (tolerated this problem long enough to get my party to level 10) is the directional pad. I just bought and finished FFiii and the D-pad in that game was flawless. Why couldnt that one be implemented in this one? Will definitely change to a five star if this is improved—and will restart and continue this game if and when that happens. Thank you for reading (I think).

Great game

Everything on the game worked perfectly. No flaws in the controls.

Nostalgic masterpiece

The very first FF game I ever played was FF IV Advance about 10 plus yeas ago. That game took me on such a trippy nostalgia filled joyride, bringing me back to the late 90s when I would stay up many hours past my bedtime hiding in my closet to play Pokemon red and blue on my gameboy pocket. Since then I only played a few FF titles including FF X, Crystal Chronicles, and Tactics Advance. So Im pretty much going back and starting from the beginning until I have every FF game on the App Store. That being said, the original FF is completely flawless in every way. I havent experienced ANY of the problems other reviewers experienced. Aside from the end credits freezing (big deal). If youre around my age (25) then Im sure this will send you strolling down memory lane as well. BUY IT!!!!‼️‼️‼️‼️

Disappointing.

I bought the game because I truly enjoyed the old port on the NES platform. Nostalgia, brought me back to try it again. The controls are cumbersome and annoying. Sad that such a great game did not convert well to a mobile platform. I hope the controls do get an update at some point.

Great but...

Yes dpad is still weak, also if your a completionist it seems perfect level ups have become near impossible to get. I have tried over 75 times to start a solo red Mage run but cant get a perfect level up on level one :( very upsetting. If you want nostalgia and the riff raff though this is it!!!

Great...in theory...

So, I have the original NES cartridge for this game as well as the Nintendo DS version. Ive played both numerous times throughout the years. Even though the game has dated mechanics and a very simple design, Ive always loved it and have a lot of nostalgia for it. What works? I love the updated look, the updated music, the faster pace, even the controls I found intuitive. I was concerned how it would play on my iPhone 6. All of that was fine. The save features work well and the quick save is very nice. What doesnt work? Well, everything. The game is buggy to the point of being nearly unplayable. The updated music that I enjoyed so much at the beginning no longer plays in any dungeon or on any screen. This is true even after closing the app. The game frequently freezes while completing regular tasks like opening a treasure chest or using a tent. There is no rhyme or reason and the glitches seem unavoidable. This would be a 4 or 5 for me if it actually worked. Update: It does seem that the glitches have been resolved. The crashes and music issues have not been a problem. I have played this game on both the iPhone 6 and iPad Mini 2. I love the inclusion of the Dawn of Souls dungeons and the Labyrinth of Time from the 20th anniversary edition. It gives more postgame content. I also like the faster pace of play, particularly compared to the NES version. What I dont like... The difficulty. Theyve nerfed the difficulty to the point of being flat out easy. I also dont like that hits automatically redirect. That was part of the strategy taken away. Also, the leveling is wonky. Ill give it a 3/5 when all is said and done.

Memory lane

The updated graphics are great, and its still fun to level grind, but now I can do it on the go! The controls seem really bad at first, but they just take getting used to and its just fine. Just slide slowly and lift your finger when you want to stop. I did laugh out loud tho when I realized they included a run button! All in all, a recommended purchase and Im sure Ill be downloading the next ff once I finish this one.

Fix controls!!!

Should be 1 star, but hey its Final Fantasy! I was so pumped to hear these games were released to devices. I remember spending countless hours staying up late in middle school. However, I always read reviews prior to purchasing games. I was hesitant after reading them, but gave it a shot, how bad could the controls really be. Wow, after 10 plus attempts inside the inn of the first town trying to get over to the elders in the side room. I gave up. If the movement is that difficult to maneuver in town, dungeons must be a nightmare. Square has made millions over the years. Spend a little to rewrite the programming to add a control pad to the side of the screen. Examples, minecraft, dungeon quest. Please!

Broken

The game crashes about halfway through the story, making further progression impossible.

A Bone to Pick

The game is as fun as its always been, but you may want to play a different iteration on another platform, that is, unless you dont mind an awkwardly shaped d-pad, low-ish quality sound music files, and tedious game speed (do I really have to leave my character idle for a few seconds every time I want to access the menu? Isnt there any way I could speed things up a bit during battles?) Square Enix does not seem to treat its ported games very well. Its your flagship series, guys! Dont you think it deserves a bit more thought and polish than this? Still, its worth the buy if youre a die hard fan and iOS is your only fix.

Amazing Bundle

This was worth every penny. Final Fantasy is a timeless classic and so much fun to play after all these years. There is so much to do even after post game with secret bosses and dungeons you will get hours of fun from this.

Why Square Enix, why?!

The way the controls are configured on the iPad app version of this game makes it impossible to play. Ive played this game on my iPod touch when it first became available and the setup was different, with a fixed place for the virtual d-pad. Please Square, do something. Dont you see all these reviews saying theres a problem? Dont you care?

Final fantasy 1

Status checking only works sometimes.

Fix the controller

I paid for this crap! Fix the fricking controls already. People have been complaining for months! Ill never buy another SE game again. Fix it!!!

Final fancy 1 is the best game ever!

I think it is the best final fantasy because it has the original classes to choose with the greatest story line and it isnt confusing with the new graphics in the other final fantasy.

Side bars take up space!!!

Not sure why they added them and the placement of the d-pad!!??!? Update: The game is great but for about two years now since they added the borders and d-pad(hard to use) makes the game frustrating!!!
