They actually made it worse. I bet they thought it was "edgy" to add these extremely ugly borders at the edge of the screen. The D-pad is more of an eye-sore than ever. It was fine as the blue-ish crystal one, now its this huge white thing that makes me want to vomit. These changes were unnecessary and really hurt the game. Plus, FF7 gets controller support, but not this game? Lazy SquareEnix, LAZY!

I beat this ghem in 2013 the game isnt all that but it did help me kill time.

New update has annoying graphics on each side of the screen that block controls and make it unplayable! Youve ruined a game that was 5/5 stars!

Why they broke this in the first place i have no idea. But still not putting it back after months...i wana play again but that is not ok to have floating dpad on a grid mover. Fix it ffs.

Still has the side bars and that takes away from the gaming experience especially on phones. Make full screen please.

This is one of the most classic games of all time and as such needs to be treated with some respect in development! Please take out the side bars and make full screen, and fix the DPad. An example of great DPad design can be found in any of the Zenonia titles!!

Trying to view the status of characters just gives a blank blue screen.

Been a FF fan for many years; however, the Dpad is impossible, sidebars ruin the game and the controls make the game unplayable. Get with it Square Enix...your games are disappointing and not worth the purchase.

Much as I like this game, the movement tool is abysmal, and completely detracts from the game. There are about two or three pixels where you need to move your finger, and if you move too far you have to reset. Other FF games dont have this problem; you can simply hold it left/right/etc. This games reticle, no such luck. Be prepared to have to reset the movement tool for every step you take. After a few hours, it gets really old.

Yeah so Ive played this originally on psp, and I thought you guys were joking! The right D-Pad button will only allow you to move once before using again! Please fix this!

You cant see your character move. I tried playing for 20 seconds and gave up because it was too ridiculous. You have to click on the character to navigate. You cannot see anything while moving the character. They need to fix this, it shouldnt be too hard. And who the hell thought it was a good idea to have the D pad that large?!

Having played this on nearly every system, the d-pad is largely the reason I cannot give this a 5* rating. In combat, the targeting is slow and more cumbersome than I remember. With that said, sprites look great, game doesnt crash, & its a true classic. Worth the money! A gameplay fix would change my review to 5*!

I missed the Final Fantasy train until now it was an awesome Port of a great first game.

Im trying to play this game in my iPad mini, but the controls are horrible. Did a competitor send someone to Square Enix to sabotage this awesome game? I do not recommend buying this app unless the controls are fixed. Having a smaller, fixed control pad would be better (could be an option in case someone likes the current controls). Shame, because I wanted to lay all the Final Fantasy games in order.

When i fist got the game it was great. Now it isnt even playable. Bring back the d pad. Change it back, please.

Currently unplayable on 6s Plus. The side bars are lazy, and the screen is so zoomed that all the text is blurry and causes eye strain pretty quickly. The controls werent great before either, but visually this game is a non starter right now. Needs to be fixed ASAP or I have no idea what I paid for.

When I first purchased this game, I played it chiefly on my itouch. The dead wasnt great, but it didnt detract from the game too much. Ive recently tried playing this game again on an iPad mini thinking the larger screen would make this game even more enjoyable...how wrong I was! The new dpad icon is very intrusive on the world map and dungeons and, at times, require strange finger placement to see vital areas of the map like stairs or cave entrances. Its a shame that they would allow this dpad to ruin an otherwise fun game. I cannot recommend this game for purchased until the controls are fixed.

It needs to be updated to run in widescreen on newer iphones. it needs icloud support. it needs ipad compatibility. step it up.

Got through the entire game and bonus levels and noticed no major hiccups, not sure what people are complaining about. I guess the controller was slightly touchy at times but didnt bother me. I thought this was the best FF in terms of gameplay
